January 2012 Merville started managing my unit as rental agents. The first tenant paid on time, no problems. 1 October 2012 Merville let a new tenant move in. They did not do a credit or criminal check on the tenant, only a reference check. Merville also allowed the tenant to move in after paying only 1 months deposit (2 required by their own lease agreement and mandate I signed with them).
Two months later the tenant started defaulting. Christelle (rental manager) from Merville could not care less about the issue. Around May 2013 I involved my own legal team & processes after Merville's handing of the situation proved to be so amateurish that I was surprised they are still in business. Eventually got a rental interdict against the tenant and he made some payments. Merville kept deducting their fees off these payments even though they incurred no legal fees in fighting a matter they caused.
Got rid of the tenant this morning (1 October 2013). I'm out of pocket around R30 000 in legal fees and lost rent, all because Merville allowed a sub-standard tenant in to the property and then did nothing when he defaulted.
I certainly won't trust them to manage anything of mine in future!
