I went to the Somerset West Home Affairs to apply for a new I.D. Book. I was shocked by the condition of the building. Certain spots of the floor was covered in brown paper. There were boxes with copies of documents and I.D's at the back of the waiting area. The only lady helping was Ms Oosthuizen.By the time that I got to Ms Oosthuizen, I could see that she was emotionally and physically exhausted. One lady appeared from the back and left at 3.30pm. There was one other lady at the counter, but she spent her time on the computer and only occasionally helped people. At 4pm Ms Oosthuizen told this lady to leave even though there were still people waiting to be helped. Ms Oosthuizen then single-handedly helped the rest of the people. Ms Oosthuizen needs to be commended on her hard work and the other workers need to sign performance contracts. There seems to be only one lady working at that whole branch, yet they all get paid. There are so many unemployed people out there who would do anything to get a job. The state of this branch is terrible. I thought that I was back
in the Eastern Cape. I was impressed with how quickly I received my new I.D. Book.
