I was not clear from the DHA website whether I needed to take my child to apply for her passport & phoned Randburg's offices. NO ANSWER. I called Johannesburg where I the passport section told me I DID NO NEED TO TAKE MY CHILD to apply.
I went to the Randburg office this morning. The office was chaotic. There was NO-ONE AT THE INFORMATION COUNTER nor FORM COUNTER. Everyone was very confused about where queues started and ended but we were told by one of the only two officials who seemed to be on duty to sit and wait.
When my husband and I (who had taken the morning off work) reached the front of the queue, we were asked "child application? where is the child? ". When we explained we had called the Johannesburg office, the official replied: "that may be how they do it in Johannesburg, but in this office, we need the child".
We expressed confusion that there were different rules and I said: "So you have wasted my time? ". She became very aggressive and said "Who, me? What have I done? You haven't asked me anything? ". I explained that I was holding her accountable as an official of DHA and that I was unhappy with a system had wasted my time as well as her BAD ATTITUDE.
