For a few months, my water bill has been suspiciously high. After liaising with the municipality, and hiring a private plumber, it was confirmed that we had a burst water pipe. Now, the City of Cape Town has informed that they can only rebate 50% of our account that stands at over R6000. In addition, the rebate is only possible for the last three months (not even covering the all the months since the leak) and it is only subject to the installation of a newer water meter at about R1700. Also, this rebate will be the ONLY rebate ever from the city. I do NOT understand how we can be held responsible for an underground burst pipe on our newly bought property. Also, we are unable to pay such money immediately or over months!!! Either way, the city of Cape Town will be making money! And according to a consultant, we'll just have to pay the account because it's policy! I need someone from the city to contact me and ONLY someone with the authority to make such decisions. The every day consultants are no help at all!!!
