27 December:
During my Xmas break my clutch pedal on my VW Caddy 2007 stopped working. I immediately took the car in to Linday Saker Midrand (as I always use VW authorized dealers). The Head Mechanic diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced and provided a written quote for R18, 889.19 (clutch, flywheel, bearing, bolt). He then informed me that no parts were available and that it could only be done in January. In effect; I would not be able to drive to Mozambique for my annual 10 day holiday (that was already booked and paid for).
On the same day, I requested the AA to come and inspect the car. The friendly AA service man advised that my clutch was in 100% working order, but that I needed to replace the Pressure Cylinders.
28 December 2013
I drove the vehicle (with faulty clutch pedal) to Durban to collect an alternate car to drive to Moz.
Upon my return from Moz, I took my Caddy to VAlpine Motors in DBN. They replaced the pressure cylinders for R5647.97 (R13, 251.22 cheaper than Linday Saker).
Summary: A lot of stress & additional travel to collect an alternate car, due to a misdiagnosis to the tune of 13K!!
Be wary of using Lindsay Saker Midrand!!!
