My Fiance and I bought a house in Broadacres, Johannesburg that was off plan, the complex was already established with only 2 vacant pieces of land.
We finished building and moved-in, in August 2012. From August 2012 to January 2013 my electricity bill was around R350 - R450. At the end of January, I received a bill for about R35, 000!!
I inquired this drastic change in my bill and I was told that I had to pay R33, 400 connection fee. Reason being is that I apparently have a 50Kva connection (enough to power an entire suburb)
My query was then sent to the Randfontein branch of Eskom, and after numerous emails back and fourth, I was then told by one of the service agents that the rest of the complex who moved-in, in 2007-2008 paid a connection fee of R4, 850 which seems about right, but since then the connection fee has gone up to R33, 400!!
So my complaint is this:
Firstly - How on earth can a simple residential connection go from R4850 to R33, 400 in the space of 2-3 years!!!
Secondly - Why do I have a 50Kva connection in the first place!? Am I paying for the whole complex!?
I refuse to pay any charges to Eskom until this issue is sorted out.
