We hired a planer on 16 March 2013.
We paid an R160 deposit and were issued the machine and blades. When we returned the machine the sales person said the back plate was damaged and we are liable for the repair, which we accepted, and therefore he kept our deposit.
Their debtor's clerk, Dawn, has been in contact with us asking us to pay for the blades as well as the repair of the back plate, which now amounts to R178.78. The claim they are making in connection with the blades has no basis as in my opinion they are a wear item, and therefore:
a) do not fall under breakages;
b) the sales person should have said from the beginning that blades are an additional charge and do not come standard with the hire of the machine;
c) the back plate they claim were damaged, are more than adequately covered for by the deposit that was not refunded to me; and
d) no where on the paperwork signed did it say the blades would be charged for over and above the hire of the machine.
I understand from their debtor's clerk that they are handing us over for collection and that the amount has subsequently changed to R328.00. I find their service deplorable and that they aren't upfront with the charges
