The past weekend we were invited to Porterville for a wedding and after some searching on the internet and phoning a couple of guest houses, I came across Porterville Hotel's website. After looking at the photos on the website, it seem well equipped enough for a one night stay so I decided to phone them. A lady picked and gave me a reasonable tariff where after I decided to book a one night stay. She told me that it is not a problem to only stay for one night as they are not fully booked (a warning light should have gone off here).
So on Saturday I arrive in Porterville and I try to find the hotel. After driving up and down the main street and trying to convince myself that Porterville Hotel cannot be the green place off the main street, I pulled into the parking. I walked in and was horrified by the look of things. My first impressions were dirt, false advertising and unwelcoming. The local bar is definitely there. Every time the swing door that led to the bar swung open, I was greeted with a cloud of smoke and laughter from clearly very drunk people. Bear in mind this was 12pm. In conjunction with this there was no one to greet us at the front desk. Out of characters..
