We were booked to stay at the Gonubie Hotel from 02/01/2014 - 05/01/2014. On arrival a huge pile of dirt welcomed us along with a smell from the parking area. The reception area was messy and smelly and one could only imagine what the rooms looked like. On entering the rooms, the walls were dirty, the bedding faded and the carpets smelled like someone had kept pets in there. The curtains were not even hung properly. R750 a night is what they charge and the thought of having breakfast there was sickening. Is this what you would expect from a 3 star graded place? How does an establishment get their star grading? there was no way I was going to spend the night in an establishment that hardly looked hygienic. We immediately left to find Bluewaters Hotel, a 3 star graded establishment within walking distance from the Gonubie hotel. It was clean, smelled good and looked really good and charged the same amount. Now this is what I expect from a 3 star graded establishment. The service was excellent and staff all friendly. To make matters worse, Gonubie hotel requested that we pay in full for our stay before arrival and had only refunded R375 when we had paid for 3 nights stay.
