I have been a member of Liberty Medical Scheme for almost 5 years. At the end of last year I changed my option for the first time, having regard to my health needs and affordability. I have my own business and in the current economic climate, things can change quickly. Late January / February I encountered unforeseen financial difficulty. I contacted the LMS call centre to enquire whether it was possible to downgrade to a lower and more affordable option given my current financial situation. I was told that it was not possible as members may only make one option change at the end of the year. When the contribution for March was returned, I again contacted the call centre to discuss a possible solution as I did not want to cancel my membership. It was still early in the year and I had not used any major benefit of my new option, I thus requested that my request be reconsidered. I was told it would not be possible although I received a call a few days later from customer services advising me that management had "considered my request but it had been declined". No reason / explanation was given. I was told to pay up or go. Clearly loyalty has no value to LMS! It's all about money!
