I write this with great disappointment at the service at tshepo themba private hospital. I took my wife to the hospital on the 1st of June 2020 because she was complaining of abdominal discomfort and back pains, she was assigned to Dr. Mbatha who didn't have time to monitor the patient and explain to the patient about her condition, he just put her on a drip and continued to give her pain killers. without even taking her to the scanner to figure out why this is happening. he will just come to check on the patient after 6 pm and was always in a hurry, the patient had to call us to intervene since there are lockdown restrictions and visitors are not allowed..
the patient's condition deteriorated and only after the patient heard other doctors talking about how it is not right for the doctor to continuously feed the patient drugs without even taking her to the scanner, she complained to the doctor and demanded to be scanned, this was three days later when the doctor booked her to be scanned, that's when they figured out that the patient had to undergo a bowel resection surgery by this time the patient was too weak from just sitting with pains, so she had to be admitted to ICU and I found out from another doctor that the patient's kidneys were now failing. had to call the hospital now and then to monitor the progress of the patient.
when I went to check on the patient I found out she had a long incision on her stomach even though these procedures can be performed laparoscopically and considering the age of the patient, I had to accept because what is done is done and there is no reverse.
now what really irks me is that the patient was finally discharged on the 20 June 2020 and the following day the patients wound from the surgery was oozing some fluid-like she had a tap on her belly, I called the doctor and he said i must take the patient back to the hospital, which I did, however since the patient has been readmitted on the 21st June 2020 the doctor has not attended to her, the patient is complaining that they just put some towels on her bed and told her she can't move until the doctor comes to check on her. the patient tried to call the doctor several times and he is avoiding her calls and not responding to any messages.
im concerned that she will be attended to again when her condition gets more critical and life-threatening, this hospital shouldn't be a private hospital as it contradicts all the values of what a private hospital should be. i still believe that all of this could have been avoided should the patient have been attended in time. why would a private hospital doctor come once a day, after 6 pm to monitor the patient, that is if he comes at all because some days the patient would complain that the doctor did not come at all.?
I am considering taking legal action against the hospital as this is gross negligence. now I just found out that the doctor spoke to her on the phone and told her that he has booked her to go to the theater without even coming to check on her condition, what nonsense is that?
