Passing the Buck

Received terrifying news from Discovery Medical Aid. The following was e-mailed to me:

out-patient treatment for Zyvoxid.

"Our doctors and Medical Review Team (MRT) have reviewed your request and unfortunately have declined the funding for this treatment. The Department of Health and the Council of Medical Schemes has ruled your condition to be a notifiable disease. This means that all treatment given for this condition, needs to be recorded by the government."

"In this case, this condition can only be treated by government, within the public healthcare sector. We as a medical scheme in the private healthcare sector are obliged by the Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMB) to fund for diagnostic and initial treatment of your condition and then to refer all members to a State facility."

As per the article in the Sunday Times [URL Removed] the need for this drug in XDR patients like myself is of primary requirement which is not available within the government sector at all. After a year of being on the waiting period why is Discovery failing me in this regard???
