Medi-clinic
Incompetent nursing care

My Three week old baby was Admitted in Muelmed Hospital for Jaundice on Friday 31 January 2014. He was placed under the photo therapy light and installed a drip as treatment. The drip was moving at 10ml/h for Friday and Saturday, On Sunday morning one of the Sister's on day shift (07h00-19h00) increased the speed of the drip to 125ml/h. One of the Nursing staff who came in for the night shift (19h00-07h00) queried the speed of the drip around 19h10 and then reduced it back to 10ml/h saying the speed to excessive for the baby, The sister in charge then came 30 minutes later and removed the drip and said she will put it back after checking something. We reminded her around 20h45 that she has not to re-installed the drip and that made the baby very restless, she promised to re-install the drip in a short while. We again queried the Sister for the drip at around 06h00 and she attempted to install it with no success after five attempts, she then said she couldin't see clearly at night hence she didin't install it and the sister's coming in for day shift would install the drip. The drip was the installed at around 09h30 (Over 12 hours later) by the staff on day shift.
