In Feb 2013 I had to cancel my discovery medical aid after being on the plan for a few years due to my account being double debited for amounts that were unaffordable to me and would have put me in financial debt. This was due to the scheme setting me on the highest income bracket after I had sent documents to them to verify income but they had not received them. I was not informed of the double debits and therefore I had to put an immediate stop to the medical aid in order to avoid the debits going off and leaving me in further debt. I was told I had to pay back whatever debits were outstanding which was not the correct premiums for my income bracket. I could not afford to do that and I held off on the medical aid.
I recently decided that I needed to re-join and sent in an application. I declared on the application that I may need to be hospitalised for pregnancy due to family planning and suspected pregnancy but no confirmation as yet from the doctor. I was given a 12 month waiting period which is really disappointing because I paid for many years and did not make use of my medical aid. The only reason I had to stop the medical aid was because of the debits going off.
