My wife suffers from kidney cancer which has spread to the Liver. She was ordered by the Professor to have a PET scan as he wanted to know if the cancer had spread before the operation is performed. She is on a classic comprehensive plan. The scan cost approximately R18 000. The result of the PET scan showed that the cancer had unfortunately spread. If this scan was not preformed and the operation was done. This would have cost hundreds of thousands of Rands. As per discussion with the oncologist and professor they indicated that no other scan would have picked this up. Discovery has been very illogical and I can not believe they will not cover this scan as without it an operation would have been performed which would have cost the scheme a lot of money. THIS DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE!!! My biggest regret is changing my wife and I medical aid from Momentum health to Discovery. I am really disappointed in the logic used be the people from Discovery.
