I am a loyal supporter and regular customer of Protea Hotels.
In the past, during peak as well as off-peak season, I have never had a problem eating lunch at the pool.
Today, I unfortunately experienced awful service by the manager on duty, Ruan. After learning I was not a hotel guest, he said I needed to leave immediately. As this happened, our entire lunch arrived. He then said we could eat our lunch inside or leave. I told him we would like to quickly eat our lunch poolside, and then leave.
He absolutely refused, raised his voice and proceeded to attempt to escort us out.
In short, I was treated in a terrible manner. Unacceptable customer treatment! It may be a (new) hotel policy to only allow hotel guests into the pool area but this particular hotel has never had a problem with this in the past. In addition, the pool area had approx 5 people there only,
What kind of hotel turns away business and treats their paying customers like a common criminal?
I am absolutely appalled and will have an extremely hard time ever going back to any protea hotel again, as a guest or customer.
