Hillcrest Private Hospital
FAILURE TO NOTIFY PATIENT

The admissions clerk INSISTED on getting the authorisation for a procedure for my wife, but would only do it the following week.By so doing she took the responsibility for passing on vital information supplied to her by the medical aid and failed to do so. The hospital claims that it was my wifes responsibility to get that info, Because the clerk failed to tell my wife that she had to go to a designated service provider (there is one in the hospital), the medical aid did not pay in full and my wife is now out of pocket for over ten thousand rand. If th ehospital insists that it is the patients responsibility to get authorisation, then they MUST NOT ALLOW the admissions clerk to do it, and fail to pass on vital info. Had she done it while we were sitting there, she would have told us. Doing it a few days later does not absolve her of the responsibility she insisted on taking.
