A group of 8 of us went to Marula for a farewell dinner. all I can say is - shocking! One of our party ordered Pie, chips & gravy, & for her R45 she got a pie bought from the local garage (it was still in it's tin foil base), some decent chips and a cheese sauce (no gravy). We were all so horrified that we called over the manager who was extremely rude and unpleasant. When he offered an alternative, he said that we would still have to pay for the pie as well. Eventually a hamburger was ordered, and when the bill came with the R45 added, a heated argument ensued. Eventually the manager agreed to charging R15, the cost of the pie from the garage, but all the time complaining that he was 'going to be making a loss'. The hamburgers weren't so great either - with extremely stale buns. The only good parts - the wonderful waitress, and the chips were pretty ok. To the manager - you don't belong in the hospitality industry! Added to this the loos which had signs telling people not to put foreign matter into the loo, 'it costs us a lot of money to fix'', instead of the standard 'don't do this please'.
