Applied for authorisation for a procedure that under normal circumstances can be performed in a dr's practice, however my situation is not normal circumstances. I am highly allergic to some medication. I was admitted for anaphylactic shock a few years ago (which Discovery paid for) and seem to be growing into medicine allergies. I need to have a procedure done that for all parties would be safer in a hospital theatre, but Discovery want me to pay R2300 co-payment to do it in a safe environment versus paying in full if I have it done in the practice - GO FIGURE. Which is a huge risk to me. I don't always know if I am allergic or not till I take the meds. Despite my specialist writing a motivational letter, the CLEVER REVIEW PANEL has once again gone against a specialists request and will not waiver co-payment. What on earth are we paying nearly R100k a year for medical for if when you need a procedure you still have to pay more??? R68k profit for the year from us alone, not bad Discovery. But your decision is pathetic to say the least!!! Further action will be taken
