My gripe with Medshield is an ongoing exhausting one. We cannot change medical aids due to laws in place that make this too risky. I have been with them for 25 years, on one of the top cover options. My wife is on chronic medication, they used to pay for her injections in full, now I have to make a R 1700 co payment every time. No explanation given, they just change the rules with no communication. She needed a colonoscopy recently at Kloof Medi Clinic, to motivate for continuation of her injections. We were given a authorisation number and told we would need to give a co payment. On arrival (a 500 km journey for us?) we were informed we had to pay the full amount, R6000. ie, they rejected their own authorisation!! Today I received a payment - R480 odd rand, that is their contribution to a R6000 bill?! And they took ages to approve the continuation of her injection, she started getting sick again, only after that and a huge fight did we eventually get the injections again. They seem to make it as difficult as possible to claim, its almost as if they don't want us us a client, as my wife is an expensive client due to her illness. (Crohns diseaase) Very frustrating and cruel.
