MEDSHIELD COMPLAINT
I have a 3 year old son that was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy by a neurologist at the age of 2 years. Following his diagnosis, I have made every possible effort to get his condition registered as a PMB with Medshield in order for critical treatments to be covered by the fund, and was only successful with this registration after 6 months of intensive effort in October 2012. On direct request and by specialist motivation of the neurologist, it was determined that Aulko would require repeated Botox injections on account of spasticity of leg muscles to maintain a degree of suppleness, speech therapy, physiotherapy as well as occupational therapy to insure optimal development. According to the rules of the fund we would be entitled to 22 additional therapy sessions, not covered from our day to day fund. Despite countless calls, emails and faxes I have struggled since Oct 2012 to have any of the speech and occupational therapy invoices paid by medshield. Eventually I felt so disheartened that a I requested our medical aid brokers to assist, but even their efforts have been unfruitful. We have been told that the invoices having lapsed validity (4 months)...
