I am currently 25 weeks pregnant and phoned Discovery Vitality today to advise and ask for exception to the general gym rule. I advised the lady that I still go to gym, but obviously not as often as I used to last year, which averaged 5 - 6 times per week. I was informed that discovery will not make any exceptions to their rules, not even during pregnancy, healthy or not. If you have a gym contract, you better use it or we will charge you more. I am totally for training during pregnancy and staying healthy, but I can also feel that my pregnancy is taking its toll on my body some days and you just simply do not feel up to it.
I asked the question wrt what happens during the 6 weeks after labour or if you get really sick during your pregnancy and have to be on your back. Oh, let's think, same response, so sorry to hear, if you do not go to gym, you will be charged extra. Now 3 x a month is not much, I totally get that. However, for a health care provider, I cannot help but wonder who enforces the rules? Someone who has never been pregnant?? It would be great to pay all this money to a health care provider who understands, especially when you have been living very active and healthy.
