There was a burglary. They broke into 2 units and attempted to break into the main house and 1 other unit.
One guest lost a laptop, R11 000 in cash & digital camera - goods over the value of R20000. The other guest's sliding door was removed.
The place has a flimsy front gate- easy to climb over and open from the inside. Windows and doors don't all have burglar bars. The alarm was deactivated, out of date and no connection to local security company, despite having ADT boards on the wall. According to the owner 'it is too expensive'. The website advertises secure parking but there is no wall separating the parking area from the road. The safes were out of order. One guest (who lost cash) did not have a safe in his room. The owner and her daughter left the guest house unattended - they were on holiday. There was no one taking care of the premises or there to deal with the police. Guests were left to their own devices, phoning the police and local response unit, who kindly came to investigate. The owner was evasive and dismissive when questioned and refused to invite me in and speak with me. I moved out and she only refunded me after much persuasion. I was paid in the parking lot
