I took out a Contract for a Apple iPhone 4S 16gb with Vodacom in September 2012. The phone developed a software issue in August 2013. The phone came with a one year warranty so it was replaced with a new phone free of charge. The new phone then developed a problem in January 2014 where the battery would not charge. I tried 3 different chargers and none worked. The new phone is apparently not covered by the warranry as it is only from the date of purchase. The report I received from Vodacom Advanced Repair Centre stated that this new phone had no physical damage anywhere on the phone or to the docking mechanism which you plug the charger into, and because of this reason i cannot claim a new phone. According to my insurance, they do not cover mechanical failure of portable possesions. And therefore my claim for a new phone was rejected. My Insurance would cover it if i droppped the phone or broke a pin in the docking mechanism.
It is unacceptable that a product retailing for R7000 has broken twice in 18 months through no fault of my own. And now because of the poor build quality of an iPhone which is only 5 months old, i am left without a phone for the reaminder of my contract.
