When it breaks, there's no way to get it sorted

I bought a tube of clear silicone sealant for home use. I broke the seal on top of the tube then on and carefully snipped the top off the funnel top supplied, then proceeded to squeeze. All went well for a few minutes, then suddenly the base of the tube opened under the pressure, and a wodge of sealant splurted out of the bottom of the tube. I cleaned up. Which took a while. Then I carefully twisted the bottom of the tube closed again, giving several turns to secure it, made sure the tip was clear of any blockage, and started again. This time I keep a good grip on the base and made sure it couldn't unwind. After a few minutes, the tube tore in two places near the base resulting in a double splurt of sealant. More cleanups. I went to the website for the customer care number and called it. "The number you have dialed does not exist." Double checked the number (not difficult, half of it spells Bostik) and tried again. "The number .. does not exist"
How can such a major company so totally fail to take any responsibility for customer care? I guess maybe the product as well as the call centre has been outsourced to China
