Recently, unbeknown to me, the municipality worked on the mainelectricty box for the area. Not realising this, we looked in the Sandton Chronicle for an electrician to assist us with not having electricity in one phase of our property. They advertised that they are "registered electricians" -not!
What they did was to tell us that one of our phases on the DB Board has burnt out and it need replacement at a cost of R9998.00. Having had no other option, we paid the R9998.00 and they 'replaced" the particular part. a few days later, i received a call from my neighbour telling me that the whole street had the same problem and it was because the municipality worked on the main board down the street.
she suggested i check my db board as a friend of hers experienced the same thing and they eventually concluded that they have 'bridged" the non working phase with the working phase.
Being suspicious about it all, i called another electricity (certified and checked this time) to do - at a cost - a full report. He established that they have "bridged" the phase that was not working with the phase that was working - taking my money with an illegal/dangerous connection
