My tenant contacted Sandton Electricians in connection with an electrical fault. He then phoned me to say that the repair quote was R14000. I then phoned to find out the nature of the fault and was told that the 3 phase main breaker and earth leakage unit needed replacement. Knowing that the parts cost was approximately R3000 I queried the repair charge and was then told that there had been an explosion or similar in the distribution board and that the electrical busbars were melted and many electrical circuit breakers damaged. Concerned, I immediately went round to the premises to see what had happened only to find that what I had been told was absolute nonsense. I then phoned to query the discrepancy between what I had been told and reality I was told that they would reduce the price to R12000. I refused to accept that quotation and asked their representatives to leave. It subsequently transpired that there was noting wrong with the distribution board at all and the fault was on a plugged in security board in the premises. I believe that this incident was nothing less than attempted.
