I hired a car from AVIS using my credit card. The holding deposit was reserved and at the end of the rental period I returned the vehicle in good condition with full tank fuel. After a few days I received my tax invoice which was followed by charging the invoice amount on my credit card. Up to this point everything seemed fine.
I then waited for the reserved funds to be released so that I can access it, but that didn't happen. I called the AVIS customer care line several times and in each and every occasion the consultants kept on telling me that they have informed their bank and my bank to release the funds and it will be accessible within 24 to 72 hours but that didn't happen.
I called again after three days and the same promise was made but to no avail. Every time I call, I am promised that the funds will be accessible within 24 to 72 hours but that doesn't happen.
I value AVIS as a car rental company, the staff at pick-up and drop-off points are excellent but the unnecessary delays or refusal to release reserved funds even after invoices are paid in full IS A GREAT INCONVENIENCE. It just wipes-off the satisfaction that one has received from all the contact staff I met.
