My father, Steve Boshoff, started working at Sasol in Sasolburg in 1954. He was one of the first employees of Sasol. He also joined the Sasol medical scheme in 1954. In 1989 he retired from Sasol, as Head of the Corrosion Laboratory.
Up to today he is still a member of the Sasolmed Medical Scheme. That is an amazing 59 years membership of Sasolmed.
Up till 4 months ago my father was very healthy and very active, and had very little claims against Sasolmed for treatments or medicine.
4 months ago he was diagnosed with a hormone resistant prostate cancer. He received two courses of chemotheraphy, which was not effective, and the oncologist decided to change the type of chemo needed. The oncologist applied at Sasolmed, and after 8 working days we were informed that it is 'scheme excluded' and the treatment was declined. The oncologist again applied for another type of medicine. After waiting another 6 working days, were once again told it is 'scheme excluded'.
Sasolmed and Sasol is this the way you treat ex employees that build Sasol to the giant it is today?
