African Furniture Removals
Refusal to move "forgotten" item on inventory list

After accepting their quote, & paying up-front I completed the inventory as requested; Items included furniture (made by my grandfather) & pre-packed boxes from my late grandmother's house in KZN. I informed them my mom would be present to supervise. On the day of collection, the 20 Dec '13 the driver arrived & informed my mom he was in a rush. She began pointing out items, starting with a bookcase. He stopped her & said he would follow his inventory. She suggested they go through the inventory together, which he declined. The items were spread through rooms in the house proper, as well as the outside cottage. The driver split his team between the two and my mom joined him in the cottage to supervise. When he announced he was finished, she pointed out he had forgotten 2 beds from the cottage, which he added. After he left, she realised the bookcase had been forgotten in the house. I have liased the manager & his colleague, & they insist I should pay an additional fee to have the bookcase moved, as it was "equally my mom's responsibility to point it out to the driver". I find this unacceptable as the driver had an inventory AND declined to go through it with my mom when offered.
