We bought engine spares for a Toyota MR2 in April 2013 from Gemini Motor Spares in Jhb. As we didn't know better, we fully trusted the salesman who helped us. we were assured that the spares were for the right engine although we specified 3SGE as the manufacturer's code for this engine. When we handed the spares over to the mechanic, it was the wrong timing belt. The one we bought was a 174Y25 and it should have been a 178Y25. As we live in the northern suburbs of Pretoria, it is quite a drive there and back but we didn't mind as the belt cost us R899.95. When we got there, the same salesman had a long story that he could not exchange or refund as the packaging was lost. (The packaging turned out to be a simple plastic bag without any logos or markings) He then suggested that we check with the chassis number to confirm the right belt. It was supposed to be the 178Y25. His mistake. He then suggested we phone frequently to confirm the right belt be in stock as it was on back order. We did this month after month and what a nightmare it turned out to be! Yesterday they confirmed the new belt was in stock. To our dismay we were told it can no longer be exchanged as it was bought in Apr!
