Land Rover South Africa
Maintenance Plan Sham

I bought my Land Rover Discovery 4 with a maintenance agreement the vehicle would have been serviced every 13000kms. Afterwards, Land Rover made a unilateral decision to double the service interval to 26000kms. This means that the allowed number of services in the maintenance plan halved from X to X/2.

At the time I didn't think about it much, until I exceeded the next 13000km service interval: The car's brake pads were worn, and plumes of diesel smoke followed the car - clear signs that the car required servicing. So I booked for a service, only to be told that the brake pads would be replace but the service would have to be paid for out of my own pocket because it was now no longer on a scheduled service interval.

Of course a number of communications followed and eventually Land Rover then reverted to allowing the service and subsequent 13000km services, with the condition that should it exceed the 13000 mark, I would have to pay for a 144 multipoint check. Based on this condition it is clear that Land Rover feels that anything over 13000km service interval requires an extensive check, yet they are only willing to only willing to service their vehicles every 26000kms...
