I went to Courier some documents to the US Consulate from CT to JHB last week. When sending other documents to the UK Consulate a couple months ago Postnet told me they don't courier locally with DHL (although most Postnets have a DHL sign on the window). So I was a little suspicious as my documents are always returned through DHL.
This time (last week) I was quoted 750.00 rand! Just to go to the US consulate in JHB!!! There wasn't any important documents like passports in the package! It was just an application! I asked again about DHL, they told me, again, that they don't use DHL locally. So I said, well I don't want to postnet Courier it I would like to DHL it, and they said ok, but you will have to pay a huge fee for Postnet to transfer it to DHL service. I didn't even ask - anyone could see that they don't do DHL locally because it must be cheaper, and noone would Courier it with them! So I thanked them and I left. I went to a DHL office and sent it for 292 rand!
Postnet has signs up saying they courier anywhere in the country for 99 rand. I understand Consulates are different and should be more - but 650 RAND more? Ridiculous! Never Again will I send anything with Postnet
