I was trying to have an alarm fitted to my wife's Toyota Yaris. We got a quote for R1300 from one supplier but decided to rather have one fitted by a Toyota dealership. I phoned McCarthy in Table View on 26 August and was told the person responsible was in a meeting. Someone identifying himself as "the manager" phoned back a few hours later and I was given a quote of R1700 and told that they needed the reg no in order to confirm the booking for Thurs morn. I phoned back at about 11 am and gave the reg no and my phone no to a person. Someone responded at 4.45pm enquiring about the nature of my call. I tried to explain that I was asked to phone the reg no through to them. On Wed 28 August, I phoned them again to confirm the booking and asked to speak to the manager. The manager had no knowledge of the quote and requoted me R2000. I put the phone down in disgust and was phoned back a few minutes later confirming that the car had been booked in for a "service" and would I like to have the alarm fitted at the same time. I have now gone to a rival dealer - Protea and am having it fitted for R1700.
Shame on you McCarthy, shame! Is this a classic case of biting off more than you can chew?
