The disgrace of South African customer service

Yesterday 18/01/2014 ( /- 14:40) after having spent around about R55 on a meal, I then asked if I could please a glass of tap water as I do not drink cold water due to gastric reaction in my stomach.
I asked one of the staff member if I could please have a glass of water and she said she was on her way out and someone else was going to bring it. After 5 min I went to the counter asking for the promised water.
Bryan who identified himself as a manager told me I need to pay R9.50 for a glass of tap. Really?
KFC who today charges over R20 for a meal that less than 2 years back cost R10 and now only gives 1 or 2 tissue ply per customer and still have the audacity to ask customers to donate R2 to charity.
I do not mind contributing to a good cause but not through an unscrupulous company such as KFC South Africa.
KFC employs incompetent cheap labour managers and cashier at the expensive of a good customer service.
The fall of once a great country now the private and the public sector are destroying the image of the country no one seems to care, shame where is the so called business ethics?
