Standard Bank offered me an upgrade to a gold card since I have a cheque account. It was a package and there is no annual card fee as advertised. However I was charged the annual card fee. I called the centre and e-mailed as well to request that this amount together with the interest be reversed. I did not pay as I had not made any purchases and nor did I receive a statement. The rsponses were totally off the mark and did not address my query. In frustration I asked for the account to be closed and lo and behold the did so very efficiently. I was then asked to complete a totally new application if I wanted to reinstate my account. Do they not know that it is better to retain an existing client that go after new ones!
