Charging double interest on original amount

Good day.

I phoned to get a settlement amount that I owe FNB for a overdraft I had with them. The original amount was R6000.00. When they gave me the settlement, they gave me an amount of R12972.64. This is more than double what I borrowed. They never phoned me before telling me about this account and that they add interest every month.

I am more than willing to settle the account, but not if it is R12972.64. I am willing to pay at most R8500.00.

I hope we can get this sorted ASAP.
