Failure to evaluate the property i purchased

In April 2012 purchased a house and my bond was approved by FNB. The bank sent an evaluator prior to the purchase to examine if the property is worth the value requested by the seller. I visited the housing branch in Durban Musgrave to understand what does the evaluation include. I was told that it includes examining the walls and roof of the house. The house I purchased using FNB as a financer has extreme damp issue on the inside, the bathroom walls have fungi growing on them, the ceilings in all rooms have marks of dampening. This kind of issue was present even at the time of purchase, however with my little knowledge about house structures and what a damp wall may mean where leaks and roofing is concerned I was unable to diagnose the problem. However I believe the evaluator should have been able to pick up this problem as the person I requested to assess the issue says any person who's an evaluator should've been able to pick this up.
