On 26 February 2013 the cistern of our toilet cracked. My husband reported it to The Absa claims department who sent out a plumber to the damage. The toilet is the original that was fitted when the house was built approximately 35 years ago, it is a coloured porcelain/ceramic toilet set consisting of bath, toilet and basin and is no longer manufactured. My husband was informed that the claim would not be approved because the damage was from wear and tear due to age. He was advised that if it had been accidentally damaged then the claim would have been approved. In other words, don't be honest but tell a lie. We have home owners insurance for just such occurrences and who would insure a new toilet anyway!! We have been advised that the claim has been placed on advisory delay and in the meantime we have five people using one toilet. It is amazing that Absa is the first company to deduct their premium at month end and after many years of contributing we cannot claim for a broken toilet because its old!! Give me a break
