On 22 November 2012 I phoned the African Bank call centre for my settlement amount on my loan with them. They emailed the settlement amount to me which I paid in full on the day. I also stopped my debit order with my bank as it was very close to the end of the month. I received an sms to say that my debit order did not go off at the end of November but I ignored their message as I knew that I had settled the amount. Today, 28 February 2013, a debit order of R650 has gone off my account from African Bank. I have phoned the call centre & they have told me that the loan is still active even though it was settled. I now owe them R1212.67 for charges from Nov - Feb. I feel this is abuse. When you settle why do they not inform the customer that the account is still active even though the account is settled & they will still be deducting every month? How many people have been cauht out by them in the name of revolving credit? Why not inform the customer?
