Any excuse not to honour a claim

I have had two very bad experiences with ABSA home owner's insurance in the last two months. Firstly my shower floor cracked, after stepping onto it one night. Keep in mind, we are covered for sanitary ware! The house has been standing since 1987, but still their excuse: "The shower pan was not installed properly". So were we and the previous owners just lucky for 24 years running? I definitely am not that lucky as I am insured with ABSA!

Then, last week, my pool filter develops a crack, the moment I start back-washing. Again, their excuse: "The pump is too strong for the filter, therefore we do not pay." Again, it's been running for years, how come now?

Now I'm trying to cancel. Guess what? They first need to see whether the new cover is adequate. Wake up smart insurance people, I'm trying to move because it's obvious not adequate at the moment!
