Clients held responsible for FNB mistake?!

During the Getaway Show I rented furniture from a company called 3D Cape. I made payment to 3D Cape and then cancelled the agreement and they had to refund the money. 3D Cape contacted me with the refund and explained that they received payment twice, at that point I was under the impression that my account was deducted twice. FNB phoned me 3 OR 4 MONTHS AFTER the incident and informed me that one of the deductions were made from their account and wanted to know when I will be paying it back. I stated at that point in time that I will pay back a portion of the money due to the fact that they only waited that long to inform their me about the mistake, which I stated earlier I was under the impression that my account was deducted twice. The consultant at that time sent me an email still informing me that I need to pay the full amount and I then requested a manager must contact me which no one did until today when I received another call from a consultant. I explained and repeated what I said to the previous consultant. Then this consultant said that FNB could take the money from my account without me giving them permission?! I may be wrong but that's against the law!
