Today a merchant took money from my credit card account which was already a few cents over the limit. When I phoned the bank to ask why they allowed a transaction over the limit they could not answer me only telling me that they allow one transaction over the limit. I asked what is the use of a limit then and how to do I prevent this from happening again. The call center operator informed me that it was unfortunate that I had already reached my limit. I told him that it in fact was very fortunate that the amount was only R99 and not R99 000. I told him I would take it up with the merchant as I only paid for a once off service. According to the agent there is nothing they can do about the limit. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS THE USE OF A LIMIT ON MY ACCOUNT IF THE BANK ALLOWS MORE TRANSACTIONS THAN WHAT THEY HAVE LIMITED ME TO! Why could this transaction not be reversed by them, the bank?
