Insurace claim

I have cellphone insurance with the above mentioned insurer, i have been with them for over a year now.
My cellphone got lost and i claimed for insurance, They told me that i was approved for the claim but later on it got declined because they say the period in which i was supposed to claim had passed, however i did not get informed about this initially when i got covered. It is then unfair for a customer because i did not know about this, had i known well in advance i was going to do it on time. They are taking forever to get back to me after i wrote them a motivational letter to explain why i could not claim on time.
