Hello

I was recently overseas where I used my standard bank card (student achiever card).

On returning home I received a message saying that my account was in overdraft. Prior to departure I was informed that it was impossible to get an overdraft facility on my account.

It turns out, unbeknown to me, that I had spent money that I didn't have but was yet to reflect on my account balance. So even though I budgeted a certain amount of cash to survive until month end by checking my balance, this was an illusion due to the false balance reflected. Furthermore there was now an "Honouring Fee" of R120 added to the balance.

I immediately phoned the bank and spoke to the appropriate person who informed me that the money had been used but hadnt been processed by the other bank so continued to reflect in my account. Surely there is a better way to of reflect your actual balance so you don't make this mistake??

Furthermore these so called honouring fee's of R120 and more continue to add to my negative balance even though I was told this would not be the case.

THIS IS DAY LIGHT!!

standard bank has just lost another long time customer, and I have the feeling I won't be the last.
