I have found a complaint on this site that reflects my concerns as well. Most banks allow for payments to be deducted and if not deducted on the same day they allow for an available and unavailable balance, which makes sense. As for Standard Bank, they do not deduct the purchases off your account. Which is totally insane - always leaving you in a negative balance. Why when doing inter-bank transfers it does not reflect immediately.
Last year December I called the Internet banking division about an query on my account. While waiting for a Customer Assistant to assist me, Standard Bank had a recorded message with other Standard bank information playing. One of the messages that was playing was - "That if your salary is paid into your Standard Bank account by 12 December or after any Debit Orders that you have with Standard Bank will automatically be deducted as soon as your salary is paid into your account" Unfortunately for me that did not happen! So I paid my Homeloan and RCP accounts before the standard debit order came off. After the 25th December my standard debit orders came off for both homeloan and RCP. Which now leaves my account in a negative balance. I'm highly appauled
