After a long negotiation with Hollard Travel Insurance, I am writing this report to warn unsuspecting consumers to steer clear of this company when traveling.
My friends and colleagues in the travel industry have been shocked about this story, and subsequently the company has completely refused to take responsibility for its negligence.
Basically, I purchased Hollard's most comprehensive policy covering Adventure and Mountain sports. Part of the coverage therein was for medical evacuation. While we were traveling in Nepal, I became very sick with altitude sickness. On 31st October, we made an urgent call to their emegency line requesting advice on the best course of action. They responded that they didn't have a policy for us. We gave them both of our ID numbers, and they still couldn't find our policy. We gave them our policy number, they still couldn't find it.
After 12 hours of this, I was so sick that we had to book a helicopter evacuation. I was taken to a hospital in Kathmandu, they still couldn't find my policy. And only two days later responded to say they will not be covering us. so we cashed out our retirement savings and disputed. to no avail.
