FNB cannot keep my balance updated

I have always been a fan of FNB and I have always recommended it to people due to the good rates and easy to use internet banking. I have my business and 2 personal accounts with FNB but I am VERY UNIMPRESSED with how they do their job- manage my banking.
Sometimes, money I spend just does not go off my account for days and is not reflected on my available balance. SO, I am literally broke now directly because of my bank, because I THOUGHT I had a certain amount of money left, when spending from a week (!!!) before went off and now I have nothing. I have logged a complaint with FNB & was told that is just how it works- because some vendors don't put through the transactions immediately. Now that I understand BUT if I have spent money on my account it should ALWAYS IMMEDIATELY be reserved for purchase and reflected on my AVAILABLE BALANCE (which it is not!), even if the money is still in my account. Why can they sms me that money is spent but not take it off my AVAILABLE BALANCE?! So I have to keep a separate running total of my money because my bank can't keep my balance updated? Is that not THEIR JOB???!!! I feel this is absolutely RIDICULOUS! And the bank doesn't seem to care.
