We have supposed to have 24/7 roadside assistance as part of our insurance polcy through FNB Brokers. When my alternator packed up Sunday night I called their number as shown on the card and brochure which I keep in my car (0860 645 801). The number was "unobtainable".
Fortunately, a family member who has AA membership was able to obtain assistance for me as I had her number and she called on my behalf. I got home safely, no thanks to FNB Insurance Brokers!
Next I had to get my car towed to the Auto electrician to have the alternator fixed. I tried FNB Insurance Brokers - it took 3 different calls before I got some level of service out of them (could not find ID, policy number changed etc) and have been told that I should receive an SMS and a tow truck will be dispatched. That was some time ago. I am passing the time by typing this complaint. If I was on the side of the road out of town my cell battery would be dead by now and I would have had to make an alternative arrangement.
In the meantime I am investigation other forms of obtaining roadside assistance. Clearly this feature as offered by FNB Brokers is no good IN AN EMERGENCY.
