FNB will not close my account AFTER settlement

On Friday 6/12 I called in to the call center to get the amount necessary to settle the outstanding debit on my gold card with an eye to closing the account. I was informed at the same time that I should call once it had cleared to make arrangements for closure. I paid the outstanding amount that evening. The money cleared over the weekend, I received the SMS notification.
I have been trying since Monday the 9/12 to get the account closed... bearing in mind that every day is going to cost me interest!!! I tried the call center and got given an alternate number 011 6322234. After two hours of failure to get to speak to anyone and just being told that I must stay on the line because my call is important.
Following in from this I have sent emails to the addresses on the web site, I have filled in the response form on the website and sent email to [Email Removed] ... BUT NO ONE RESPONDS!!!
I did get one response asking for my full name and ID number on Tuesday BUT NOTHING HAS HAPPENED SINCE THEN.
This is ridiculous. For a bank which apparently won some international awards this level of customer service is shocking.
